Tubular Lower
has anyone installed tubular lower rear control arms in a g-body, how long did it take and any issues?
my mechanic seems to think its going to be an all day event, don`t want to spend a load of money to install something so simple.
Do it at home, yourself and save the money.. I have done a few monte carlo’s and alot of F bodies (camaro/firebird)
It’s simple.. Couple hour job, and thats taking your time.
You need..
PB blaster, or WD-40
1/2″ drive breaker bar (longer is better)
1/2″ drive or 1/2 to 3/8″ adapter and 3/8″ drive sockets that fit the bolts..
A pair of vise grips,
A boxed end wrech that fits bolts
A jack
A couple jackstand
Do one side at a time.. Take off a wheel, Jack up say pass side, place a jack stand under frame at rear, in front of wheel, and a jackstand under the rear end housing.
Soak the bolts with PB blaster or WD-40.. Use the boxed end wrench, or vise grips to hold one side of bolt, and use the breaker bar and socket to loosen bolt.
Remove both bolts on that side’s arm, remove arm, install new arm, put bolts in, and tighten up..
Take stands out, put wheel on, and let down..
Go to other side, and do the same.
If you have air tools (impact wrench, air ratchet) it will cut a good 30-45 min off your time
